Three-Goal First Helps Northeastern Down Colgate, 5-2
Junior forward Matti Hartman scored two goals for the Huskies

BOSTON - Matti Hartman (two goals), Veronika Pettey (goal, assist) and Andrea Renner (goal, assist) each notched multi-point efforts, and senior goaltender Brittany Bugalski made 39 saves to propel the No. 9 Northeastern women's hockey team to a 5-2 victory over No. 8/7 Colgate on Saturday at Matthews Arena.

Senior Kasidy Anderson also lit the lamp for the Huskies (2-1-1), while Coralie Larose scored both goals for the Raiders (3-3-0) as Northeastern earned the weekend split and its first win over a ranked opponent this season.

The Huskies started fast and took a 2-0 lead in the opening period when Hartman and Renner scored just 50 seconds apart midway through the frame. Sophomore Tessa Ward earned her first collegiate assist on the opening goal with a poke-check in the neutral zone that lead to a partial breakaway by Hartman.

After the Raiders pulled a goal back, Anderson restored the two-goal cushion with a snipe in the low slot following a feed from freshman Alina Mueller in the waning seconds of the opening frame.

Larose brought the visitors back to within 3-2 late in the second period, but that was as close as Colgate would get. Pettey scored for the fourth straight game to push the NU advantage to 4-2 with a forehand-to-backhand finish at 18:59 of the second period, and Hartman tacked on her second of the game at 10:06 of the third with an unassisted strike.
