Senior goaltender Brianna Storms made 21 saves for the Huskies

BOSTON - Making her first collegiate start, senior goaltender Brianna Storms pitched a 21-save shutout to backstop the No. 3 Northeastern women's hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Merrimack on Senior Day, Friday at Matthews Arena.

Storms stopped 11 shots in the first period, six in the second and four in the third to preserve Northeastern's sixth shutout of the season. The victory also gave the Huskies (23-5-4) their 21st Hockey East win of the year (21-3-2), which set a new program record for most league victories in a single season.

Sophomore Veronika Pettey, freshman Alina Mueller and junior Andrea Renner lit the lamp for Northeastern as the Huskies improved to 13-2-0 at Matthews Arena this season. Renner, who also notched an assist on Mueller's goal, potted her 10th goal of the season to become the sixth Husky to reach double digits in goals this year.

Sophomore Skylar Fontaine also added an assist on Mueller's goal to get on the scoresheet for the 10th time in the last 11 games.

The Huskies' No. 1 ranked penalty kill was put to the test four times in the opening 20 minutes, but strong defensive play and a few big saves from Storms kept Merrimack (16-11-6, 12-10-4) off the board from start to finish.

Prior to the game, Northeastern honored seniors Kasidy Anderson, Brittany Bugalski, Maddie Hartman, Brianna Storms and Tori Sullivan.

The Red & Black will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a 2 p.m. puck drop at Merrimack.
