DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore Skylar Fontaine scored the game-winning goal and added an assist as the No. 9/8 Northeastern women's hockey team extended its unbeaten streak in Hockey East play to four straight games with a 3-1 win at New Hampshire on Sunday at Whittemore Center.
Freshman Alina Mueller and sophomore Veronika Pettey also scored for the Huskies (4-1-1, 3-0-1 WHEA), while freshman Chloe Aurard dished out two assists. Senior goaltender Brittany Bugalski turned aside 17 of 18 New Hampshire (1-4-1, 1-3-0 WHEA) shots to help Northeastern earn its 19th win in the last 22 meetings against UNH.
The Huskies came out firing to the tune of a 15-2 shot advantage in the opening period, and eventually took a 1-0 lead at 18:35 of the frame when Fontaine found Mueller for a snipe under the crossbar from between the circles.
Fontaine doubled the advantage with a pretty move, shifting backhand-to-forehand to beat UNH netminder Kyra Smith (30 saves) at the 17:14 mark of the second stanza.
The Wildcats spoiled the shutout at 14:18 of the third period on a Taylor Wenczkowski goal, but Northeastern responded with an empty-netter by Pettey at 19:59 to seal the game. The goal extended Pettey's season-opening point-streak to six straight games.
The Huskies are back in action Friday, Oct. 26 at Matthews Arena against Providence at 7 p.m.
