UConn Falls To Colgate In Ice Breaker, 6-2

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The UConn women's hockey team fell in the opening round of the Women's Ice Breaker Tournament, suffering a 6-2 loss to the Colgate Raiders Friday night at the HarborCenter. The Huskies (4-3) will play Mercyhurst (4-2-1) in the 3rd place game Saturday afternoon at 4:30 pm.

Senior Tristyn Svetek and sophomore Danika Pasqua provided the UConn goals while Kate Thurman delivered an assist. Senior goaltender Morgan Fisher collected 19 saves in the loss.

Colgate opened the scoring up and held a 2-0 lead after the first following goals from Kendall Williamson (5:01) and Allyson Simpson (12:28).

Danika Pasqua lit the lamp for the Huskies less than a minute into the second frame. The sophomore slipped her shot past Liz Auby's pad to bring UConn within one, 2-1, at the 30 second mark.

The Raiders held a two-goal advantage after 40 minutes and pushed their lead to 4-1 following Malia Schneider's power play tally in the 10'.

UConn refused to go away quietly though - the Huskies sliced the Colgate lead in half once more, this time off the stick of Svetek. The senior defenseman received the puck from Thurman, skated into the crease and nestled her shot into the back of the cage at the 11:12 mark to bring UConn within two goals.

The home team ended any hopes of a UConn comeback bid, using two late goals to propel themselves to a 6-2 advantage - the final result.
