NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- Behind tournament MVP Alina Mueller's four-point performance, the No. 4 Northeastern women's hockey team claimed its third straight Hockey East championship with a 9-1 victory over the University of Connecticut on Sunday afternoon at Lawler Rink.
Sophomore forward Alina Mueller, junior defenseman Skylar Fontaine, sophomore forward Chloe Aurard and junior goaltender Aerin Frankel were all named to the All-Tournament team. Mueller picked up MVP honors and is the third straight Husky to be named MVP after Frankel collected honors in 2018 and 2019.
Eight Huskies got on the score board, with freshman Jess Schryver leading the way with two goals. Fontaine, Mueller, Matti Hartman, Aurard, Katie Cipra, Codie Cross and Peyton Anderson all potted goals. Mueller and Aurard each posted four-point performances.
Northeastern's (32-4-2) nine goals are a Hockey East championship game record, besting the previous mark of New Hampshire's six-goal victory from 2006.
Catherine Crawley scored the lone goal for UConn (19-18-2) and goaltender Morgan Fisher finished with 27 saves. Frankel posted 19 saves in the victory and owns a 12-0-0 mark in the Hockey East tournament.
