Junior goaltender Loryn Porter made 20 saves for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's hockey team tied the University of Quinnipiac 0-0 Saturday afternoon.

The first period was as close at things get, with the shots favoring the Bobcats 8-7. Both teams were able to block three shots to help out their goaltenders.

The second period was mostly the Black Bears, but Abbie Ives of Quinnipiac was able to stop every shot put on her. Maine outshot the Bobcats 24-12 in the period, while also leading in block shots 6-2.

The third period was mainly Loryn Porter vs Quinnipiac. Porter made a couple of saves during the closing minutes of the game to keep the Bobcats off of the scoreboard. She made eight saves in the 3rd period, while getting five blocks from her defense to help.

Maine's best scoring opportunity came in the closing seconds of the 3rd period, where Morgan Trimper deflected a pass from the boards that when just wide of the net.

This game required overtime to decide the winner, which ultimately ended in a tie.


Game Notes:

- Maine led the total shots 46-41.

- Quinnipiac ended up blocking one more shot than the Black Bears, leading 13-12.

- Abbie Ives moved to 2-1-1 on the season with the shutout.

- Loryn Porter picked up her second shutout in just as many games on the season.

Maine, who is now 2-1-1 on the young season, will play host to both Northeastern on Friday, Oct. 18 and Boston University on Sunday, Oct. 20. Those games are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.
