STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's hockey team (3-5-1) lost in overtime 3-2 to Vermont on Saturday afternoon at the Freitas Ice Forum.
The Huskies carreried a 2-0 lead late into the second period on the strength of two power play goals. Viki Harkness scored her second goal of the year, 11:18 into the first period on a back-handed feed from Danika Pasqua.
The score remained 1-0 until Morgan Wabick scored her first goal of the season on a loose puck in front that she was able to lift and put past Jessie McPherson.
The Catamounts gained momentum late in the second after the Huskies committed a penalty and Corinne McCool was able to capitalize with a momentum shifting goal to make it a one-goal game heading into the second intermission.
Vermont came out firing in the third, scoring the game-tying goal just 1:21 into the period off the stick of Theresa Schafzahl. The game remainded tied through the end of regulation before Schafzahl was able to score the game-winner 3:39 into the 3-on-3 overtime period.
With the overtime loss the Huskies were able to salvage a point on the weekend.
