Senior goaltender Aerin Frankel made 21 saves for the Huskies

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Tessa Ward scored her fifth goal of the season and Veronika Pettey recorded the game-winning goal in the second period to lead No. 2 Northeastern (16-1-1 Hockey East) to a 3-1 victory over Vermont (6-3-0 Hockey East) on Friday night inside Gutterson Fieldhouse. Aerin Frankel made 21 saves in her 100th career game, picking up her 72nd win in her career, also a school record.

Megan Carter added an empty net goal and finished the night with two points for the Huskies. Northeastern leads the country with a 16-game unbeaten streak and have not given up more than one goal in 10 consecutive contests.

Neither team scored in the opening 20 minutes, but Ward lit the lamp just under two minutes into the second period on an assist by Molly Griffin. Pettey made it 2-0 with just under five minutes left in the second period as the Huskies led by two after two periods of play. Vermont's Corinne McCool scored just over four minutes into the third period, but Frankel made eight saves in the final period and Carter buried an empty netter at the 18:33 minute mark to give the Huskies the victory.

The second-ranked Huskies will look to take the weekend sweep over Vermont tomorrow at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed on College Sports Live.
