BOSTON, Mass. - The No. 2/3 Boston University men's ice hockey team had its six-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Friday in a 4-2 loss to 17th-ranked Boston College at Agganis Arena.

The visiting Eagles took a 3-0 lead, thanks in large part to a pair of 5-on-3 power-play goals, before junior Danny O'Regan got the Terriers on the board with a tally on a power play early in the third.

Fellow junior Matt Lane got BU within one with 6:37 left and the Terriers threatened to complete the comeback before the Eagles added an empty-netter to create the 4-2 final.

BU falls to 12-4-4 on the year with a 7-2-2 Hockey East mark. The Eagles upped their unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2) to improve to 13-7-2 overall and 6-4-2 in league play.

Despite penalties aplenty in the opening 20 minutes, BC netted the lone power-play goal of the period at the 6:41 juncture. The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 at the end of an entertaining frame that saw BU and BC combine for 31 shots on goal.

It was a back-and-forth start to the second stanza, but a pair of BU penalties led to a 5-on-3 marker from Alex Tuch. The Terriers nearly responded with a shorthanded goal when senior Evan Rodrigues rushed into the BC zone on a 2-on-1, and then again almost answered with an Ahti Oksanen bid on the ensuing power play chance which Rodrigues drew.

BU finally got on the board just 1:17 into the final frame with a power-play goal of its own. O'Regan gathered the puck at the top of the left circle and unleashed a shot through traffic for his team-leading 15th goal of the season.

With time ticking away, Lane lit the lamp to make it a 3-2 contest. Freshmen Brandon Hickey's shot towards the net took a deflection off of classmate Nikolas Olsson. The puck caromed to Lane at the right post, and the junior made no mistake for his fourth goal of the year.

The Terriers pulled goaltender Matt O'Connor in favor of an extra attacker with just over a minute remaining in reguation and had the puck in the BC zone. However, Zach Sanford blocked a shot at the top of the zone and sent the puck all the way down into the vacant cage to seal the victory.

Following a day off, BU will return to league play on Sunday afternoon when the Terriers host UMass Lowell in a battle for first place. Puck drop at Agganis is set for 2 p.m.
