BOSTON - Riley Hughes recorded a goal and an assist, and Michael Kesselring scored his first goal of the season to lead No. 14 Northeastern (6-4-2 Hockey East) in a 6-2 defeat to No. 1 Boston College (10-2-1 Hockey East) on Tuesday night inside Matthews Arena. The Eagles scored four unanswered goals after the Huskies tied the game in the second period, and the Huskies were outshot 33-28.
Kesselring tied the game in the second period with a shot from the point at the 6:10 minute mark, but the Eagles responded 37 seconds later and extended the lead to 4-2 just past the midway point of the period. The Eagles added two more goals late in the third period, one coming in the final minute of the game.
Connor Murphy was forced to leave the game in the third period with 20 saves, and Curtis Frye saw his first action of the season. Frye stopped a breakaway almost immediately after entering the game and made seven saves. Dylan Jackson, Jayden Struble and Gunnarwolfe Fontaine all added assists for Northeastern. Fontaine and Jackson are riding a six-game point streak for the Huskies.
BC's Marc McLaughlin led the Eagles with a goal and an assist, while Spencer Knight made 26 saves between the pipes.
