Sophomore goaltender Aerin Frankel made 25 saves for the Huskies

BOSTON - Sophomore goaltender Aerin Frankel earned her second shutout in three starts with 25 saves to backstop the No. 9/8 Northeastern women's hockey team (3-1-1, 2-0-1 WHEA) to a 3-0 victory over No. 10 Maine (4-1-0, 0-1-0 WHEA) on Friday afternoon at Matthews Arena.

Sophomore Brooke Hobson pitched in a goal and an assist, and seniors Kasidy Anderson and Tori Sullivan also lit the lamp for the Huskies. Sophomore Veronika Pettey added two assists to extend her point-streak to five straight games.

Northeastern scored once in each period, starting with a goal from Hobson that found the back of the net from the left point with 2:20 remaining in the opening frame.

Sullivan doubled the lead with a snipe under the crossbar from the low right slot at 15:07 of the second stanza, and Anderson tacked on a power-play goal at 11:23 of the third with a redirection in front following another point-shot from Hobson.

The Northeastern defense allowed just nine shots on goal through the first two periods, but relied on Frankel to keep the Black Bears at bay in the third as the NU netminder stopped 16 pucks in the final 20 minutes.

The Huskies will look to remain unbeaten in Hockey East play on Sunday at UNH at 2 p.m.
