Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Sophomore forward Benn Ferriero scored two goals, assistant captain Joe Rooney recorded two assists and junior goaltender Cory Schneider tied a school record for shutouts as 11th-ranked Boston College captured a 3-0 victory over UMass Lowell before 4,218 fans in Conte Forum.

Schneider, who stopped all 16 shots for his 13th collegiate shutout, is tied former Eagle Scott Clemmesen (1997-01), for the Boston College record.

The victory also marked win No. 100 for Boston College’s four-member senior class. The quartet of Brian Boyle, Justin Greene, Joe Pearce and Joe Rooney, captured 29 wins as freshmen, won 26 games in each of the sophomore and junior years and has won 19 games so far as seniors in 2006-07.

Nathan Gerbe scored his team-leading 18th goal of the season for the victors.

Ferriero scored less than two minutes after the opening faceoff, snapping a quick feed from junior center Dan Bertram past UMass Lowell freshman goalie Nevin Hamilton (18 saves) at 1:52.

Gerbe doubled the Eagles’ lead at 14:41 of the second period with a man-advantage goal. He knocked in the rebound off Brett Motherwell’s shot from the point. Brock Bradford also assisted on the play.

Ferriero completed the scoring at 1:12 of the final frame with his second goal of the contest.

The win improved the Eagles’ record to 19-11-1 and 15-8-1 in Hockey East play.

UMass Lowell (7-20-6, 6-15-3 HE) and Boston College will conclude the regular-season series on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Lowell’s Tsongas Arena.
