Nathan Gerbe scored a hat-trick for the Eagles

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Junior forward Nathan Gerbe tallied three goals - two shorthanded - to lead Boston College to a 6-2 Hockey East win over Boston University before 7,884 fans in Kelley Rink.

BC began the night quickly, scoring three goals in a 2:17 span of the first period. Gerbe opened the scoring at 5:10. Senior Pat Gannon doubled the BC margin at 6:32, and Gerbe netted the first of his two shorthanded tallies at 7:27.

BU junior Brandon Yip narrowed the difference to 3-1 with a power-play goal at 12:09.

The host Eagles scored two second-period goals to claim a 5-1 lead. Sophomore Ben Smith scored at 4:48, and junior Andrew Orpik netted a power-play goal at 18:45.

Each team netted one third-period goal. Gerbe completed his hat trick with a shorthanded goal at 3:35. BU senior Pete MacArthur answered with a power-play goal at 9:17.

BC freshman John Muse made 33 saves to earn his fourth collegiate win. BU sophomore Brett Bennett made 25 stops, while senior teammate Karson Gillespie stopped eight shots.
