COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - SWith the extra attacker on, Mark Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) scored with 20 seconds to play in regulation as the No. 7 men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Colorado College at the World Arena (5,542) on Friday night.

Providence (13-5-5, 6-4-1 HEA) came back from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to move to 7-1-4 in non-conference play this season. Senior co-captain Steven Shamanski (Carberry, Manitoba) scored the first Friar goal. Alex Kushelnyski led Colorado College (2-15-4, 2-7-3-1 NCHC) with a goal and an assist.

An eventful first period that ended 0-0 saw each team get two power play chances. The Friars fired 18 shots on goal in the frame, including 10 on their first power play of the night, but Colorado College goaltender Josh Thorimbert was equal to the task. Friar goalie Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine) made seven saves in the period, including one on Sam Rothstein's snapshot from the slot at 6:13 while the Tigers were on the power play.

Colorado College struck first at 3:01 of the second period on a shorthanded play that started when Eamon McDermott fired a pass from his defensive zone to Krushelnyski at the Friar blue line. Krushelnyski gathered it in and beat Gillies on the shorthanded breakaway. Peter Stoykewych also assisted on the play.

The Friars answered right back at 5:18 of the second when Shamanski blasted home his sixth of the season. A few steps inside the blue line, he fired a Jankowski feed high past Thimbert. Trevor Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y.) also assisted on the play.

The Tigers took their second lead of the night at 17:21 of the third when Charlie Taft finished off a pass down low from Krushelnyski, who broke up a Friar clearing attempt at his offensive blue line.

With the extra attacked on, the Friars again answered with the game-tying goal, scored by Jankowski with 20 seconds to play in regulation. John Gilmour (Montreal, Quebec) flipped a shot on net from the point that Thorimbert turned aside. Noel Acciari (Johnston, R.I.) took a whack at the rebound to keep the play alive for Jankowski, who deposited his eighth goal of the season into the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.

In overtime, the teams combined for a handful of chances including a Jankowski wrist shot from the slot that Thorimbert just got his glove on to push aside and a Charlie Taft bid as time expired that Gillies stood tall on.

Gillies finished with 27 saves for the Friars, while Thorimbert made 36 stops for the Tigers. Providence and Colorado College each finished 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Friars and Tigers finish off their two-game series tomorrow night with a 9:07 p.m. (EST) game at the World Arena in what will be Providence's final non-conference road game of the season.
