Sophomore forward Devin Shore scored the game-winning goal for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine - Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario) scored 19 seconds into overtime to give the University of Maine men's ice hockey team to a 4-3 win over the University of New Brunswick in college hockey action on Tuesday night.

New Brunswick was whistled for a penalty late in regulation, which carried over to the overtime period. Josh Henke (Trenton, Mich.) got the puck to Brice O'Connor (Londonderry, N.H.) just seconds into the extra frame. He passed to Shore who fired a shot past Varsity Reds goalie Joel Vienneau.

New Brunswick got a fast start to the game, scoring three first period goals. Thomas Nesbit had a pair in the first 10 minutes, while Ben Duffy added one at 17:01, to five the Varsity Reds a 3-0 lead after one period of play.

Maine got on the board with a goal by rookie Brady Campbell (Blenheim, Ontario) 4:14 into the second period. He received a pass from Bill Norman (Stockholm, Sweden), skated into the slot and wristed the shot into the back of the goal.

Maine added a power play goal by Stu Higgins (Troy, Mich.) at 7:51 of the second period from O'Connor and Ben Hutton (Prescott, Ontario) to pull to within a goal at 3-2.

Maine tied the game at 13:53 of the third period when Connor Leen (Chester, N.Y.) fed Ryan Lomberg (Richmond Hill, Ontario) who promptly deposited the puck into the back of the goal to knot the game at 3-3. Eric Schurhamer (St. Paul, Minn.) also assisted on the goal by Lomberg.

Maine goalie Martin Ouellette (St.-Hippolyte, Quebec) got the start for the Black Bears and made 14 saves in 29:53. Dan Sullivan (York, Pa.) made nine saves in the final 30:26.

Charles Lavigne made 10 saves over the first 29:53 for the Varsity Reds. Vienneau made 10 saves in the final 30:26.

UNB outshot Maine 26-24 in the game. The Black Bears were 2-for-6 on the power play, while UNB was scoreless in one opportunity.

Maine returns to action when it travels to rival New Hampshire on Friday, Jan. 24. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM from the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. The Black Bears return home when they host New Hampshire on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 7 PM.
