Sophomore netminder Cayden Primeau made 33 saves for the Huskies

ORONO, Me. - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by #12 Northeastern, 4-0, on Saturday night in the Alfond Arena.

First Period: There was no score in the period as the Black Bears out shot the Huskies, 10-9. Maine had their lone power play early in period that led to two shots for the Black Bears. The Huskies had back-to-back power plays midway through the period as Jeremy Swayman made a save on each power play to kill off the penalty.

First Goal (1-0 Northeastern): Maine won the face-off to start the second period. Within 17 seconds, the Huskies took the puck and scored. Liam Pecararo had the puck in the neutral zone and passed it to Grant Jozefek off the boards who found Zach Solow. He made a solo effort before putting the puck past Swayman.

Second Goal (2-0 Northeastern): The Huskies had a 3-on-2 coming up the ice as Jozefek passed the puck to his left to Julian Kislin. Kislin passed the puck to his left to Pecararo who shot the puck into the net to double Northeastern's lead.

Third Goal (3-0 Northeastern): Northeastern scored seconds into their third power play chance. Tyler Madden won the face off back to Jeremy Davis. Davies skated to the top of the zone before he passed to Brandon Hawkins, as he one-timed it into the back of the net to add to the lead.

Fourth Goal (4-0 Northeastern): John Picking won the neutral zone face-off back to Eric Williams in the defensive zone. Williams lofted the puck onto the stick of Lincoln Griffin, in the attacking zone. Griffin passed the puck across the goal to Hawkins, and he scored his second goal of the night. The 4-0 lead stood for #12 Northeastern, as they took both games of the Hockey East series.


Notes:

- Jeremy Swayman finished with 25 saves, while Cayden Primeau from Northeastern tallied 33.

- The Black Bears went 5-for-6 on the penalty kill as they failed to score on their four power play chances.

- Northeastern won the face-off battle, 36-31.


Next:

The Black Bears will travel to Boston College on Wednesday, January 16th to take on the Eagles at 7 p.m. while the Huskies will travel to UMass on Friday, January 18th for a 7 p.m. game.
