CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Tim Doherty's second goal of the night midway through overtime on Friday night lifted Maine to a 4-3 Hockey East victory over No. 4 Boston College at Kelley Rink.
The Eagles suffered just their second defeat in the last 15 games, falling to 15-6-0 overall and 9-4-0 in the league. The Black Bears improved to 11-9-4 (5-7-2 HEA) with their fourth straight win in the series.
Doherty closed the night with two goals and an assist, while his linemate Mitchell Fossier had a goal and two assists. Jeremy Swayman made 37 saves between the pipes for Maine, including 18 in the third period.
Rookies Alex Newhook (1-1-2) and Matt Boldy (0-2-2) each had multi-point efforts for BC in the loss, while classmate Mike Hardman potted his seventh of the year.
Logan Hutsko's team-leading 14th goal during a 6-on-4 with less than two minutes remaining sent the game to overtime. Hutsko also had a game-high eight shots on goal for the Eagles, who out-shot Maine 40-25.
Playing in his 100th collegiate game, Ben Finkelstein collected an assist. Classmate Julius Mattila posted his team-high 23rd helper of the season.
Spencer Knight took just his fifth loss of the season in net, finishing the night with 21 stops.
SCORING
1st 14:22, BC Goal (1-0) - Finkelstein ripped a one-timer off Swayman's right pad, but Hardman collected the rebound and lifted a shot into the top left corner to open the scoring.
1st 16:55, BC Goal (2-0) - Newhook dropped a pass to the right goal line for Boldy, who spun a no-look return feed for Newhook to one-time inside the left post blocker side.
2nd 0:27, Maine Goal (2-1) - Doherty finished a 2-on-1 with Fossier, one-timing a forehand effort past Knight's outstretched glove from the right wing circle.
2nd 4:45, Maine Goal (2-2) - Fossier saucered a lateral feed past the stick of a BC defenseman on a 2-on-1 and AJ Drobot wristed a shot inside the left post to tie the game.
2nd 16:40, Maine Goal (2-3) - Early in a Black Bear power play, Adam Dawe centered a pass to Fossier just inside the crease and he tipped the puck into the right corner.
3rd 18:17, BC Goal (3-3) - Boldy set up Hutsko at the top of the left wing circle off a won faceoff from Julius Mattila, and Hutsko picked out the glove side corner through a screen.
OT 2:26, Maine Goal (4-3) - Eduards Tralmaks won a battle below the goal line and worked the puck to the front for Doherty, who slipped a backhand inside the right post glove side.
