Boston University Falls to Notre Dame, 4-1

Box Score

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Sophomore Ryan Greene scored his first goal of the season but the sixth-ranked Boston University men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-1 setback to Notre Dame on Friday night at Compton Family Ice Arena.

BU (1-2-0) scored the first goal of the game but Notre Dame (2-2-0) scored the next four goals, including three in the opening period. The Terriers outshout the Fighting Irish, 44-26, but reigning Big Ten Goaltender of the Year Ryan Bischel made 43 saves.

Making his Terrier debut, junior Jack Hughes had the primary assist on Greene's goal, with sophomore Quinn Hutson also picking up an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- BU started on the front foot, with freshman Macklin Celebrini and senior Luke Tuch nearly combining for a goal just 20 seconds into the contest.

- Greene gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead 4:44 into the proceedings. Hutson gathered the puck at the right post, turned and fired a shot that Bischel saved. The rebound came right to Hughes, who also had his shot kicked away by Bischel. Greene's bid on the ensuing rebound hit the back of the net, however, to get BU on the board.

- A deflected puck during an Irish power play beat Caron to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the first.

- Notre Dame scored a pair of even-strength goals to take a 3-1 lead into the second period before quickly adding another power-play goal to extend its advantage to 4-1.

- BU pulled junior Mathieu Caron (22 saves) during a power play in favor of an extra attacker with 3:39 remaining in regulation, but the Irish were able to kill the penalty and close out the game.

- Hughes became the fifth Terrier this season to record a point in his BU debut, joining freshmen Macklin Celebrini, Jack Harvey, Shane Lachance and Tom Willander.
