Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Dylan Peterson and freshman Shane Lachance each scored two goals to help lead the No. 2 Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 6-1 win over Yale on Friday night at Ingalls Rink.

BU (12-4-1) never trailed, with Peterson and sophomore Ryan Greene scoring in a span of 2:05 to give BU a 2-0 lead. Yale (4-9-0) got within one midway through the first but two Terrier goals in the second stanza put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Devin Kaplan recorded a career-best three assists while classmate Jeremy Wilmer and graduate student Sam Stevens had two assists apiece. Freshman Mick Frechette collected his first collegiate point with an assist on Peterson's first-period strike, with senior Luke Tuch, sophomore Quinn Hutson and junior Ty Gallagher also adding one assist apiece.

Junior goaltender Mathieu Caron was sharp between the pipes, stopping 23 shots to earn his 12th win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Greene opened the scoring just 3:17 into the proceedings. Hutson began the sequence with an outlet to Tuch that created a 2-on-1 with Greene racing up the right wing. Nathan Reid turned aside Tuch's initial shot, but Greene crashed the net to knock home the rebound for his seventh goal of the season.

- Peterson doubled the Terriers' advantage 2:05 later. Frechette cleared the zone with a pass to Wilmer, who carried the puck into the Yale zone. With two defenders in front of him, he dropped the puck back for Peterson in the right circle. Peterson corralled the puck and fired a shot past Reid.

- The Bulldogs got a goal back at 12:27 of the first to cut their deficit to 2-1.

- Hughes restored the Terriers' two-goal edge at 11:48 of the second stanza during a five-minute power play when he uncorked a wrister from the top of the left circle.

- Lachance extended the lead to 4-1 with 2:29 to play in the second when he deftly redirected a Kaplan shot.

- Peterson's second goal of the night came at 6:55 of the final frame. Wilmer intercepted a Yale outlet pass and dished it to Peterson, who picked his spot for his fifth goal of the season.

- Lachance closed the scoring with his second goal of the night at the 9:15 mark. Stevens won a defensive-zone draw, with Kaplan taking a hit to make a play and get the puck out of the zone and onto the stick of Lachance, who raced up ice to create a 2-on-1 with Stevens. After gaining the Yale blue line, Lachance backhanded the puck to Stevens, who one-touched it back to Lachance, who finished the play for his seventh goal of the year.
