VERMONT FALLS TO ROBERT MORRIS, 2-0

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Alissa Dorman and Mallory Giambra scored second period goals as Robert Morris blanked Vermont, 2-0, in women's college hockey Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Vermont outshot the Colonials, 21--16, in the contest and RMU goalie Brianne McLaughlin stopped each shot to record her first shutout of the season. The Catamounts could not convert on the powerplay going 0-for-4 for the game and 0-for-2 in the third period.

"It was a disappointing effort in terms of our consistency," said Vermont head coach Tim Bothwell. "We were good for short stretches but we were outworked the rest of the time. At times our forechecking created some chances and we also did a pretty good job limiting their scoring opportunities but we could not cash in on our own."

After a scoreless first period, Dorman opened the scoring 1:50 into the second. Megan Picinic's initial shot was blocked by a UVM defender but Dorman banged home the rebound at the right post. Maria Olausson also picked up an assist on the play. Six minutes later Giambra made it 2-0 with a power play goal blasting a slap shot from the mid-slot past Vermont goalie Shivaun Siegl (Livonia, N.Y.).

Vermont turned up the pressure late in the second period and throughout the third. McLaughlin, by controlling the rebounds, and the Robert Morris defense, by blocking several shots, held on for the shutout.

Siegl finished with 14 saves for the Catamounts who fall to 2-10-1. With the win the Colonials improved to 5-7-1.
