VERMONT DEFEATED BY DARTMOUTH, 4-2

Celeste Doucet had a goal for the Catamounts

HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth College used four different goal scorers to defeat the University of Vermont 4-2 in women's hockey action at Thompson Arena on Wednesday night.

Both teams made the most of its power-play opportunities as Vermont went 2-for-7 while the Big Green were 3-for-6 on the power play. The Catamounts were able to strike first 11 minutes into the second period when junior Celeste Doucet (Memramcook, New Brunswick) took a pass from Chelsea Rapin (Walled Lake, Mich.) for her fifth goal of the year.

However, Dartmouth used a power-play goal from Amanda Trunzo with less than a minute remaining in the second period to tie the score at one. The Big Green were then able to take the lead six minutes into the third period when Sally Komarek beat UVM senior goalie Kristen Olychuck (Kelowna, British Columbia) to give Dartmouth a 2-1 lead.

Eight minutes later Camille Dumais scored the eventual game-winning goal when she scored Dartmouth's third goal on the power play in the game.

The Catamounts battled back though as senior co- captain Chelsea Furlani (Colchester, Vt.) scored with just over a minute remaining in the game to cut the Dartmouth lead to 3-2. With Olychuck pulled from the game for an extra skater Dartmouth was able to add an insurance goal as Sarah Parsons scored on the empty net with 41 seconds remaining in the game.

Olychuck made 34 saves in the losing effort for the Catamounts while Mariel Lacina made 18 to help secure the win for the Big Green.

The loss drops the Catamounts to 5-11-1 on the year while Dartmouth improves to 6-5-1.

Vermont returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 2) at 3 p.m. when it travels to Yale for a non-conference game.
