Freshman forward Marie-Philip Poulin had a hat trick for the Terriers

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Marie-Phillip Poulin had a hat trick as the third-ranked Boston U Terriers defeated Vermont 4-0 Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse as part of Hockey East's Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer initiative.

Poulin opened the scoring 3:04 into the first period. She skated into the slot and beat Roxanne Douville (24 saves) with a wrist-shot top corner. Kasey Boucher was credited with the assist on the play.

Poulin struck again late in the first, this time on the power play. Parked in front of the Vermont net she redirected a Jenn Wakefield point-shot past Douville at the 14:08 mark. Poulin's second goal of the night, gave the freshman forward 40 points for the season, breaking the Boston U record for points in a single season.

After a scoreless second period the Terriers put the Catamounts away with two goals in the third period. Boston U outshot Vermont 16-1 in the final frame.

Freshman Louise Warren scored at the 9:14 mark of the third, and Poulin completed her hat trick on the power play at 15:29. Catherine Ward picked up her second assist of the night on Poulin's final tally.

Boston U goaltender freshman Kerrin Sperry made nine saves to secure her fifth shutout of the season. Sperry is now 14-0-2 on the season.

Boston U improves to 19-2-3 on the season, including 9-1-3 in Hockey East play, while the Catamounts fall to 4-13-9 overall and 1-9-4 in the conference.

Vermont hosts Northeastern on Friday (Jan. 28) at 7 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The game will be streamed live online via CatamounTV on a pay-per-view basis of $4.99/game. NOTES: The Terriers went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Vermont was 0-for-4 ... BU outshot the Catamounts by a 28-9 margin ... Boston U has now won 11 straight games.
