The No. 6 Boston University women's ice hockey team scored four unanswered goals during the final two periods as it defeated Wayne State, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena. With the win, the Terriers completed their season-series sweep of the Warriors and improved to 4-1-0 on the season.

Wayne State took a 1-0 lead late in the first period, but the Terriers responded with three markers in the middle frame and a fourth tally in the final period to grab a 4-1 advantage. Senior Holly Lorms, juniors Jenn Wakefield and Jenelle Kohanchuk, and sophomore Jill Cardella scored for the Terriers. BU outshot the Warriors, 44-25, while controlling the faceoff battle, 32-28.

Freshman netminder Kerrin Sperry turned aside 24 shots in her second consecutive start, while Wayne State's Delayne Brian made 40 saves in the game.

In the first period, the Warriors' Julie Ingratta skated Wayne State to a 1-0 lead with 4:57 remaining in the opening period. Following a BU turnover, Ingratta picked up the loose puck and sent a shot from between the circles past Sperry. Although held off the scoreboard, the Terriers dominated play in the frame, outshooting Wayne State, 15-4.

BU responded with three markers in the middle frame to grab a 3-1 lead. Near the blue line, junior Carly Warren kept the puck from clearing the zone and passed down to sophomore Taylor Holze at the right circle, where she wristed a shot that was turned aside by Brian. Lorms controlled the rebound and sent the loose puck into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

At 17:56 of the period, Wakefield notched her seventh goal of the season to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead. Warren started the play in the neutral zone and sent a pass to senior Jillian Kirchner near the blue line. Kirchner skated into the offensive zone and sent a pass from the top of the left circle to Wakefield, who was skating in between the circles. Wakefield then snapped a shot low to the far post past the goaltender.

BU grabbed a 3-1 advantage just six seconds later. Freshman Marie-Philip Poulin controlled her own faceoff, skated into the offensive zone and sent a pass to Kohanchuk in the slot. The Winnipeg, Man., native then wristed the shot into the net for her third goal of the season.

In the third period, Cardella netted her first goal of the season at 15:25 to account for the 4-1 final. Kohanchuk, who was stationed in the right circle, fed Cardella in the left circle. The Rochester, N.Y., native took a few strides toward the net and sent a shot high to the blocker side for the goal.

The Terriers will return to Walter Brown Arena next weekend for a pair of games against ECAC Hockey opponents. BU will play St. Lawrence on Friday (Oct. 22) at 7 p.m. and Clarkson on Saturday (Oct. 23) at 3 p.m. Wayne State will travel to Colgate for a two-game series on Oct. 22-23.
