BURLINGTON, Vt. - Sami Evelyn and Casey Kajdek each recorded a goal to lead Connecticut to a 2-0 victory over Vermont in Hockey East action on Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Connecticut opened the scoring at the 15:37 mark of the second period on a 5-on-3 powerplay. Reigning Hockey East player of the Week Kelly Horan took the puck around the net and dished it out front to Sami Evelyn. Evelyn received the pass and rifled a snap shot to the upper left corner, beating Roxanne Douville (Beloeil, Quebec) above the shoulder for the eventual game-winner. Rebecca Hewett earned the second assist on the play.

Mid-way through the third period the Huskies put the game out of reach with a shorthanded goal. Casey Knajdek took advantage of a Vermont turnover at the blue line and went in all alone against Douville. Knajdek fired a wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle that hit the far post, deflecting into the net.

Douville recorded 17 saves in the losing effort while UConn's Alexandra Garcia stopped 27 shots earning her second shutout in the last three games.

Connecticut improves to 5-7-1 on the season, including 4-2-1 in Hockey East play, while the Catamounts fall to 1-5-7 overall and 0-5-4 in the conference.

Vermont returns to action on Tuesday (Nov. 23) when the Catamounts face St. Lawrence, 7:00 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Notes: Roxanne Douville started her fifth consecutive game for Vermont ... She has not given up more than two goals during that five-game span ... The loss ended Vermont's three-game unbeaten streak ... The Catamounts have now lost ten straight games against Connecticut.
