Senior forward Celeste Doucet had two assists for the Catamounts

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Freshman Kellie Dineen and Sophomore Emily Walsh tallied first period goals to pace Vermont to a 2-1 victory at Union College Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink.

Vermont took a 1-0 lead with Dineen's second goal of the season at the 3:04 mark of the first period. Senior captain Celeste Doucet assisted on Dineen's tally for her team leading eighth point of the season.

Just over five minutes later the Catamounts extended their lead when Walsh notched her team leading fifth goal of the season at the 8:44 mark. Walsh collected a rebound off a shot from Doucet to give Vermont a two-goal lead.

Union College's Marrisa Gentile was able to cut the Catamount lead to 2-1 at the 10:06 mark of the third period.

The Dutchwomen outshot Vermont 9-3 in the final frame but were unable to equalize as the Catamounts held on for their second straight win.

Sophomore goaltender Kelci Lanthier recorded her first collegiate win with 23 saves. Union College's Alana Marcinko made 12 saves in her fifth start of the season.

Vermont improves to 3-8-8 on the season, while the Dutchwomen fall to 1-15-3 overall.

Union College and Vermont will meet again tomorrow afternoon (Jan. 2) at 2 p.m.

NOTES: Vermont is 3-0-7 this season when scoring first ... The Catamounts are now 2-2-4 against ECAC opponents this season ... Vermont recorded its first road win of the season.
