SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The University of Maine women's hockey team finished their two game series against Union College with a 2-2 draw. The decision gives the Black Bears a new record of 10-7-5 while remaining at 4-5-1 in Hockey East play while the Dutchwomen's record now stands at 3-14-2. Brittney Huneke (Hastings, Minn.) and Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) each grabbed a goal for the Black Bears on the afternoon.

Union started the game with an early goal just under a minute into the first period. Lauren Cromartie found the back of the net, unassisted to give the Dutchwomen a 1-0 lead. Brittney Huneke answered for the Black Bears at 3:45 during a power play for her third goal of the year. Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) assisted Huneke for her 10th assist of the year. Kylie Smith (Apple Valley, Minn.) made seven saves on the eight shots she faced during the period while Union goalie Kate Gallagher made five saves on six shots from the Black Bears.

Union started the scoring in the second period when they took a 2-1 lead at 3:07 on a goal by Jeannie Sabourin. She was unassisted on the play. Jennifer More tied the game for the Black Bears at 15:36 for her fifth goal of the season. She was assisted by Brittany Dougherty, her 11th of the season, and Dominique Goutsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia), her fifth of the year. Kylie Smith helped the Black Bears by making 16 saves on the 17 shots that Union sent her way while Kate Gallagher made 12 saves 13 shots. The period would end tied at 2-2.

During the third period, Union aimed nine shots at Smith; however were unable to convert on any of them. Gallagher made 14 saves on the 14 shots that she faced for Union to send the game into overtime.

During the five minute period, the Dutchwomen tallied one shot on goal that Smith was able to block while Gallagher stopped the three shots she faced. At the end of 65 minutes of play, the game was finalized at 2-2.

Kylie Smith made a total of 33 saves on 35 shots for the Black Bears. Her record now stands at 3-1-3 on the season. Kate Gallagher saved 34 of the 36 shots that she faced. With the decision, she now has a season record of 1-3-2. Maine went 1-for-4 on the power play while Union was 0-for-6 with the advantage.

The Black Bears will have some time off before their next game on January 8 when they host Boston University for one game. The game has a start time of 3 p.m.
