Freshman defenseman Megan Armstrong had two goals and an assist for the Wildcats

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Freshman defender Megan Armstrong (Edina, Minn.) tallied a pair of goals and an assist to help lead the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team past Union College, 4-2, Tuesday night.

The win improves the Wildcats to 8-11-2 on the year while Union falls to 7-12-3 overall.

Junior Arielle O'Neill (St. Catherines, N.Y.) got the Wildcats on the board at 10:36 of the first period after scoring her fourth goal of the year. Senior Kristina Lavoie (Fonthill, Ontario) assisted O'Neill on the play for her team leading 10th assist of the year. The Wildcats outshot the Dutchwomen 11-8 in the first period.

Union's Rhianna Kurio tied the game at 1-1 at 4:23 in the second period when she scored on a power play. Alex Tancrell-Fontal tallied the assist on the play. Sophomore Hannah Armstrong (Newmarket, Ontario) regained the lead for the Wildcats at 10:04 of the second period when she scored one-of-two power play goals for New Hampshire on the night. Megan Armstrong and Nicole Gifford (Ennismore, Ontario) tallied assists on the play.

The Dutchwomen leveled the score again at 2-2 when Jessica Kaminsky notched the second goal of the night for Union. Courtney Turner and Kelly McGrath each tallied assists on the play. After two periods of play, the score remained a 2-2 draw.

Megan Armstrong scored the game-wining goal at 3:17 of the third period with her second goal of the night and her third of the season on a power play. Kailey Chappell (Pickering, Ontario) tallied the first assist while Gifford tallied her second assist of the night. Armstrong scored her second goal and third point of the night when she scored her fourth goal of the year with 1:08 remaining in the game. Chappell tallied her second assist of the game on the play while Jessica Hitchcock (LaSalle, Ontario) notched her sixth assist of the season. After three periods of play, the Wildcats emerged victorious, 4-2.

Wildcat netminder Jenn Gilligan (Maple Ridge, British Columbia) tallied her fifth win of the year, improving her record to 5-1-1 after 26 saves on 28 shots faced. Union goalie Shenae Lundberg got the loss after making 32 saves on 36 shots the Wildcats sent her way. New Hampshire went 2-for-3 on the power play while Union went 1-for-3 with the advantage.

The Wildcats return to conference action Saturday, Jan. 19 when they travel to Connecticut for their first of two games. Puck drop is slated for 1 p.m.
