BURLINGTON, Vt. - Five different Catamounts scored and Roxanne Douville made 32 saves as Vermont completed its first-ever weekend sweep against a ranked opponent with a convincing 5-1 win over No. 9 Boston University Saturday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
The Catamounts opened the scoring for the second straight game 8:49 into the first period. Vermont defenseman Megan Dalbec intercepted a clearing attempt at the half-boards and fired the puck at the net. The quick shot fooled Boston U goaltender Victoria Hanson and Dalbec picked up her first goal of the season.
Just as she did Friday night Kaleigh Fratkin found the early equalizer with 48 seconds left in the opening frame. Fratkin fired the puck on net from the point after a Terriers faceoff win and it found its way through traffic past Douville for her fourth goal of the season. Lillian Braga and Louise Warren earned assists on the game-tying tally.
Vermont regained the lead 5:29 into the second period. Gina Repaci put on a shot on net that Hanson stopped initially but the rebound caromed high in the air and Bridget Baker batted it in from just outside the crease for her third goal of the season. Sarah Kelly earned the second assist on the play.
The Catamounts stretched their lead to two goals with 4:25 left in the second period. Vermont capitalized off an offensive zone faceoff win. Casey Leveillee won the faceoff forward and Cassidy Campeau corralled the loose puck and fired it past Hanson for her first career goal.
Vermont added another during an extended period of four-on-four play 4:38 into the third period. Dayna Colang dished to Amanda Pelkey and she cut down the wing and roofed a backhand shot past Hanson for her team-leading 17th goal of the season.
Delia McNally closed out the scoring for Vermont on the power play with 26 seconds left in the third period. Parked in front of Hanson McNally redirected a Repaci point-shot to earn her sixth goal of the year.
With the win the Catamounts set a new program record with 11 wins in a Division I season. It is also the first time Vermont (11-12-4, 7-6-1 WHEA) has been above .500 in league play through ten games.
Vermont hits the road in Hockey East play next weekend as they travel to face Northeastern on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Providence on Sunday (2 p.m.). Vermont will be closing out its season-series with Northeastern while the Catamounts will close out the regular season against Providence on Feb. 21 and 22.
NOTES: Vermont is 9-2-2 this season when scoring first, including a 6-1-0 mark in league play ... 31 of the Catamounts 69 goals this season have come in the third period ... 10 Catamounts scored at least a point tonight.
