ORONO, Maine - Alyson Matteau scored here second career goal as a Black Bear, lifting Maine over Providence 2-1 in Overtime.

Both goalies had excellent nights, blanking their opponents for 2 periods. Senior Meghann Treacy for Maine finished the game stopping 28 of 29 shots she faced; Freshman Madison Myers for Providence finished saving 16 of 18.

The game remained scoreless until 10:24 into the third period when a rebounded puck shot by Junior Defender Kendra Goodrich, made its way through the crease, which met the stick of Junior Forward Cassidy Carels, and snuck past Maine Goaltender Meghann Treacy giving Providence a 1-0 lead and Carels her first goal of the season.

The score remained in Providence's favor until 18:49 in the third, when Maine pulled Treacy and scored a 6 on 5 goal off the stick of Sophomore Forward Brooke Stacey, assisted by Emilie Brigham and Morgan Sakundiak, sending the game to overtime.

The game-ending goal came from Freshman Defender Alyson Matteau, assisted by Audra Richards, 3:05 into the overtime period. Maine improves to 5-4-0 on the year, 3-2-0 in conference.

Black Bears Women's Hockey team is back in action Sunday at 2pm at Vermont, and they return to Alfond Arena next Friday to face #9 Northeastern.
