CANTON, N.Y. - The Holy Cross women's hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon in Canton.
The Saints would put one on the board in each of the first two periods to take a 2-0 lead into the final frame. The Crusaders would get one back in the third, but SLU added three more as well to seal the 5-1 win.
Julia Pelletier made 39 saves in goal and Bailey Bennett led Holy Cross with three shots.
SCORING SUMMARY:
1-0 SLU (1st, 9:38, PP): Sophie Holden broke the ice for the Saints when she put one in on the power play.
2-0 SLU (2nd, 9:42, PP): SLU registered their second goal of the afternoon, this time thanks to Kayla Vespa, again on the power play.
3-0 SLU (3rd, 5:21, EV): The Saints would score their first even strength goal of the day five minutes into the final frame.
3-1 SLU (3rd, 8:11, EV): The Crusaders got on the board when Sommer Ross fired home a shot off the rebound from Katie MacCuaig.
4-1 SLU (3rd, 10:36, EV): SLU added a fourth off the stick of Jacquie Diffley.
5-1 SLU (3rd, 11:17, EV): The scoring was capped just after the halfway point of the third when Jessica Poirier scored SLU's fifth of the day.
