UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Abby Newhook scored her first career goal one minute into overtime and Abigail Levy made 36 saves as the No. 7/8 Boston College women's hockey team topped Penn State, 2-1, on Thursday night at Pegula Ice Arena.

Gaby Roy opened the scoring early in the second period for a 1-0 lead that would hold until the 12:54 mark of the third. With Penn State's equalizer, the teams headed to a 3-v-3 overtime frame, with Newhook finding the winner.

SCORING

2nd, 1:57 | 1-0, BC GOAL: Olivia Finocchiaro came out of the corner with the puck and centered to Roy. The sophomore took it to her backhand and slid it in between the goaltender's legs as she reached the far post.

3rd, 12:54 | 1-1, PSU GOAL: Mallory Uihlein's wrist shot from the right point deflected high and into the upper right corner of the net.

OT, 1:05 | 2-1, BC GOAL: Alexie Guay's diving deflection in front of the BC goal sent Abby Newhook up the left wing. Newhook passed it to Kelly Browne on the right side and Browne deked Bothun to the right post and put the puck back across the goal line for Newhook to push across.


GAME NOTES

- Penn State had the 37-25 lead in shots on goal ... BC went 0-for-1 on the advantage while Penn State was 0-for-3.

- Abigail Levy finished with 36 saves for the Eagles, including 14 in the second period.

- Boston College is now 16-11-1 all-time in the season-opener with a mark of 10-4-1 under head coach Katie Crowley.

- The Eagles are now 1-0-0 in the all-time series with Penn State ... BC has an all-time mark of 14-19-2 against College Hockey America schools ... Crowley now has an overall record of 3-1-3 when going head-to-head with Jeff Kampersal.

- This marks the fourth consecutive season that Boston College has opened up the season on the road.

- First-year players Katie Pyne, Abby Newhook, Jenna Carpenter, Keri Clougherty, and Kiley Erickson each made their collegiate debuts.

- In addition to Newhook's first collegiate goal, Carpenter also picked up her first collegiate point with an assist on Gaby Roy's goal.

- This marked the second consecutive season that Roy has scored the first goal of the season.
