Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. - The UConn Huskies picked-up their first Hockey East points on the season thanks to a 6-1 win on the road at No. 10 Boston University Saturday night at Agganis Arena. The Huskies split the weekend set with the Terriers and are 1-1-0 in Hockey East and 2-1-0 overall.

UConn sophomore Ryan Tverberg (Richmond Hill, Ontario) scored a career-high two goals to pace the Huskies on offense. Seniors Jonny Evans (North Delta, British Columbia) and Marc Gatcomb (Woburn, Mass.) each scored and added an assist.

After a 1-1 first period, the Huskies scored just 47 seconds into the second period on Evans' first goal of the season and never looked back. Grad student Darion Hanson (East Bethel, Minn.) made 29 stops and kept the Terriers off the board in the second and third to preserve the win.

Junior Carter Berger (North Vancouver, British Columbia) scored his first goal on the season while freshman Sasha Teleguine (North Attleborough, Mass.) had an assist for his first collegiate point. Sophomore Hudson Schandor (North Vancouver, British Columbia) had a pair of assists.

BU got their lone goal from Matt Brown and goaltender Drew Commesso made 25 saves in taking the loss.

UConn held a 37-30 edge on the shot chart.

The Huskies grab their second-straight win on the road at Agganis Arena as the kick-off a season long seven game road swing.

1st Period:

The Huskies struck first, going up 1-0 midway through the opening period. Evans dug the puck out behind the net throwing it out front where Kondelik made an extra pass to find Gatcomb coming on in the left circle. Gatcomb buried the one-timer chance for his second of the season at 9:52.

BU knotted the game up at 13:13, coverting on an odd-man rush chance. Joseph Campolieto led the rush into the zone and fired from the left circle. Hanson picked up the pad save but Brown was waiting to clean up the rebound in front, his first as a Terrier to tie it at 1-1.

2nd Period:

UConn needed just 47 seconds into the second period to grab the lead back as the same three Huskies combined for the team's second goal. Kondelik chipped the puck out of the zone to Gatcomb up the left wing who drove to the net, backhanding a pass to Evans coming into the right circle to finish off a one-timer into an open net for his first of the season and a 2-1 lead.

The Huskies pushed their lead to 3-1 at the 9:46 mark on Tverberg's second on the season. BU turned it over coming into the UConn zone and Schandor was able to whack the puck up ice before going down, finding a streaking Tverberg who got loose for a break-out chance. He drove the front of the net, going to the backhand to finish for a 3-1 lead.

3rd Period:

UConn pushed their lead to three goals 5:55 into the final stanza on Tverberg's second of the night, his first career multi-goal game. Taking a feed from Teleguine in the right circle, Tverberg whipped the puck toward the net looking for a cutting Kondelik but saw it deflect off a BU defenseman and past Commesso for a 4-1 lead.

Berger made it 5-1 at 11:10 on his first this season. The Husky defenseman circled to the top of the right circled and sniped a wrister into the top-shelf for a four-goal lead while also chasing Commesso from the game.

Up Next:

The Huskies will stay on the road for a weekend series against Ohio State on October 15 and 16.
