Maine Skates To 3-3 Tie With Sacred Heart
Senior forward Keenan Suthers scored the game-tying goal for the Black Bears

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team skated to an overtime tie with the Sacred Heart University Pioneers, 3-3, on Saturday evening in the Alfond Arena.

First Goal (1-0 SHU): After forcing a turnover behind the Sacred Heart net, Austin Magera gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the opening period. Neil Shea played the puck ahead to Magera who did the rest. With just over 12 minutes remaining in the first, Maine trailed by a goal.

Second Goal (1-1): In his first career game as a Black Bear, Matthew Fawcett scored the game tying goal two minutes later. Brad Morrissey kept the puck in the Maine zone. Jakub Sirota found the puck and then found Fawcett. The newly minted Black Bear lit the lamp for the first time in his Maine career.

Third Goal (2-1 SHU): Kevin Lombardi fired a shot that was saved by Matthew Thiessen. Unfortunately for the Maine netminder, Dakota Raabe was waiting on the weak side. The Pioneer buried the puck and gave his squad a one goal lead at the second intermission.

Fourth Goal (3-1 SHU): Giving his squad a late two goal lead, Nick Boyagian found the back of the Maine net with just over 11 minutes remaining in the contest. Tim Clifton forced a turnover behind Thiessen, and his linemate did the rest. Maine trailed by two goals late in the third period.

Fifth Goal (3-2 SHU): Cameron Spicer stole the puck from a Pioneer skater. Adrien Bisson collected the stolen puck behind his own net. The defender went the length of the ice to pull the Black Bears to within one goal with 10 minutes left in the game.

Sixth Goal (3-3): Keenan Suthers' first career goal as a Black Bear sent the series finale to overtime. Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup found his teammate, Adam Dawe. The senior had his shot saved directly to Suthers. The goal was the final of the evening as Maine earned its first tie of the 2021-22 season.

- Matthew Fawcett, Adrien Bisson, and Keenan Suthers all scored for Maine. Brad Morrissey, Adam Dawe, Jakub Sirota, and Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup were credited with assists.

- Fawcett made his debut for the Black Bears after playing two seasons at Quinnipiac. Fawcett and Suthers both scored their first career goal for the Black Bears.

- Matthew Thiessen stopped 16 shots for the Black Bears, while Justin Robbins tallied 34 saves for SHU.

- Maine went 0 for 3 on their power play opportunities, as the Pioneers were 0-1 on its player advantages.

- The Black Bears blocked four shots and won 28 face-offs as a team.
