Boston University Falls to Northern Michigan, 6-2

Box Score

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Freshman Ty Gallagher scored his first collegiate goal, but the Boston University men's ice hockey team fell to Northern Michigan, 6-2, on Saturday night at Berry Events Center.

Gallagher's goal tied the score at 1-1 early in the first period, but Northern Michigan scored a pair of power-play goals late in the frame to take a 3-1 lead before adding two more markers on the man advantage.

Junior Domenick Fensore notched his second goal of the season while junior Sam Stevens, freshman Tristan Amonte, junior Ethan Phillips and senior captain Logan Cockerill all had one helper apiece. For Amonte, that was his first collegiate assist. Sophomore Vinny Duplessis made 19 saves in his first start of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Northern Michigan opened the scoring just 5:14 into the proceedings.

- BU answered just 2:12 later when Gallagher potted his first goal. Stevens gained entry into the zone and fed Gallagher, who fired a shot towards goal that caromed off a defender's skate and past Rico DiMatteo (34 saves).

- The Wildcats took advantage of two late power plays to create a 3-1 advantage entering the second stanza.

- BU continued to press for a goal throughout the second stanza, but DiMatteo came up with several nice saves to keep the Terriers at bay.

- NMU scored another power-play goal at the 14:33 mark to extend its lead to 4-1 after 40 minutes.

- Fensore cut the deficit to 4-2 with 14:27 left in the third period. His shot from the top of the zone caromed off a body in front and inside the left post. The puck just trickled over the goal line before DiMatteo reached back to grab it, and after a lengthy review the goal stood.

- The Wildcats answered with a power-play goal to make it 5-2 with 8:06 remaining in regulation.

- BU pulled Duplessis in favor of an extra attacker with just over 2:44 to play, but NMU was able to score an empty-netter to seal the 6-2 final.
