Box Score

LOWELL, Mass. - Led by a shutout from senior Owen Savory (Cambridge, Ontario), the No. 15 UMass Lowell men's hockey team (7-1-2, 5-0-0 Hockey East) blanked the visiting Connecticut Huskies (6-6-0, 4-4-0 HEA) 3-0 in front of a lively crowd of 5,025 Saturday afternoon at the Tsongas Center.

With his 34 stops, Savory posted a season-best between the pipes for the River Hawks en route to his second shutout of the year. The Ontario-born goaltender now leads the conference and the nation in multiple categories, including save percentage (.953) and goals against average (1.13).

Registering his second consecutive multi-goal game, junior Andre Lee (Karlstad, Sweden) topped the scoresheet for UMass Lowell with back-to-back goals in the third period. Junior Carl Berglund (Hammaro, Sweden) contributed a pair of assists on both of Lee's goals to match his classmate and countryman's point total with two. Senior Reid Stefanson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) contributed the third and final goal of the productive third frame with a cross-ice empty netter in the waning minutes of the game.

Both teams remained scoreless through the first two periods. UConn controlled the puck through the first 40, outshooting the River Hawks, 19-15. The visiting Huskies seemingly struck first in the contest, but their second-period goal was waved off following a review to keep the teams stuck at 0-0 heading into the third.

Despite the Huskies' control of the puck, the River Hawks shattered the scoring drought just 4:34 into the final period. Intercepting a pass in the Huskies' defensive zone, Berglund passed the puck to Lee in front of the net. Lee then tipped the puck up and over the shoulder of Darion Hanson to get UMass Lowell on the board.

Lee found his way back into the zone in the final minutes of the period off a pass off the boards from junior Brian Chambers (Weymouth, Mass.). Going one-on-one with Roman Kinal, Lee shifted the puck to the outside and sent it over Hanson's glove into the top-right corner for the 2-0 lead.

Hoping to half the lead, UConn pulled Hanson in favor of the sixth man. The Huskies passed the puck off the boards behind Savory only to be cut off by junior Jordan Schulting (Penticton, British Columbia). Quick and skillful passing between Schulting and freshman Owen Cole (Dunnville, Ontario) moved the puck out of the zone to Stefanson, who finalized the 3-0 decision over the Huskies with a cross-ice empty netter with 1:35 left on the clock.

UMass Lowell hits the road for their first road game since October 29th on Sunday afternoon, as they travel to the XL Center for another 3:35 p.m. tip-off against the Huskies.
