Box Score

NEW YORK - The Boston University men's ice hockey team fell to No. 10 Cornell by a score of 6-4 in the eighth edition of Red Hot Hockey on Saturday evening at Madison Square Garden.

After Cornell opened the scoring, the Terriers got goals from sophomore Dylan Peterson and freshman Brian Carrabes to take a 2-1 lead 13 minutes into contest.

The Big Red responded with three straight tallies to take a lead they would not relinquish. Junior Case McCarthy got BU back within a goal at 4-3 with a marker late in the third period but Cornell added two more in the third to seal the victory. Over 11,000 fans were on hand for the highest-scoring game in Red Hot Hockey history.

BU moves to 4-9-2 on the year while the Big Red improves to 8-1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The game kicked off with the highest-scoring period in Red Hot Hockey history as the Big Red took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission.

- Cornell opened the scoring exactly seven minutes into the contest as Kyler Kovich redirected a Sebastian Dirven offering to the back of the net for his first career goal.

- BU got an equalizer at the 10:30 mark as sophomore Dylan Peterson and senior Logan Cockerill executed a give-and-go along the left boards with Peterson skating to the net and depositing his sixth goal of the season.

- The Terriers took a lead of their own at 13:00 when freshman Brian Carrabes converted from the left circle on assists from juniors Wilmer Skoog and Alex Vlasic.

- The Big Red quickly turned the tables, however, to regain control as a left-point bid by Ondrej Psenicka went off the BU defense and in to make it a 2-2 contest with 5:07 left in the opening frame.

- Cornell got its first power-play chance with 1:38 left in the first and scored just seven seconds into it to create another lead change and go ahead for good.

- On the man advantage, Max Andreev converted a one-timer from the edge of the left circle off a pass from Brenden Locke at the 18:29 mark of the first.

- After the wild opening 20, graduate student Max Kaufman nearly tied the game on a shorthanded breakaway but his backhand attempt went off the right post.

- Soon after that, Cornell took the first two-goal lead of the night, as Locke skated around a defender in the slot before beating Commesso to the far post at 10:17 of the second.

- McCarthy gave BU a spark with his goal at 18:12 of the second, which came with the teams skating 4-on-4, as the junior had a wide open look from the foot of the right circle following some fantastic passing by junior Domenick Fensore and sophomore Nick Zabaneh.

- BU looked to carry that momentum into the third but Sam Malinski took advantage of a BU miscue in the neutral zone and skated in for a tally 3:40 into the period, reestablishing a two-goal Cornell cushion at 5-3.

- Cornell put the game away with 4:39 left as it manufactured a goal off a faceoff with Ben Berard getting his fifth marker of the season to make it 6-3.

- Freshman Tyler Boucher found the back of the net with 56 seconds left to create the 6-4 final.
