Box Score

DURHAM, N.H. - Graduate student Max Kaufman scored with 13.9 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday night at Whittemore Center.

BU (6-9-2, 5-5-2 HE) completed a weekend sweep of New Hampshire (7-9-1, 3-7-1 HE) thanks to Kaufman's overtime heroics. Senior captain Logan Cockerill began the sequence by winning an offensive-zone faceoff and maintaining possession. Eventually McCarthy won a battle for the puck along the left half-wall, skated to the faceoff circle and found Kaufman all alone in front of the net. Kaufman faked a shot with his forehand before lifting a backhander over Mike Robinson's glove for the win.

Junior Matt Brown gave BU a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal in the second stanza, his second marker of the campaign. McCarthy assisted on both goals while junior Domenick Fensore recorded an assist for the fourth straight game.

Sophomore Drew Commesso was sensational for the Terriers. He made 21 of his 28 saves during the third period and overtime to keep BU in the game and set the stage for Kaufman's winner.

The Terriers improved to 12-0-2 against New Hampshire over the last 14 meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Commesso made a terrific glove save less than 2:00 into the contest on a point-blank chance.

- The Terriers outshot the Wildcats, 12-3, in the first 20 minutes.

- Brown got BU on the board at 10:36 of the second stanza. With BU enjoying a 5-on-3 advantage, McCarthy and Fensore cycled the puck to Brown in the right circle. Brown skated towards the crease and eventually wristed a puck through Robinson's pads and into the back of the net.

- Cockerill and junior Alex Vlasic combined to block three shots in the final minute of the second stanza to help kill an extended 5-on-3 chance for UNH.

- The penalty kill came up big again early in the third, as senior Ty Amonte blocked a shot and Commesso made a nice stop to keep the Wildcats off the board.

- Commesso made an outstanding pad save on an in-close redirection with 8:00 remaining in regulation.

- UNH equalized with 7:07 to play in regulation. Cockerill blocked a shot with his skate, but the puck took a fortunate bounce to a Wildcat skater and he quickly flipped the puck into the cage.

- UNH nearly got a go-ahead goal with 2:50 to play, but Commesso was able cover the puck after a wild scramble in the crease. He then gloved down a slick redirection with 25.0 ticks on the clock to help force overtime.

- Vlasic had the first great chance of OT, but his backhander at the top of the crease was turned aside.

- Commesso then made a pair of terrific stops to maintain the 1-1 score and help BU eventually win the game in the final seconds of the contest.
