Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team earned the series sweep over visiting Holy Cross after the Black Bears secured a 4-1 victory in game two on Tuesday afternoon.

Ida Kuoppala led Maine with a three point day, totaling a goal and a pair of assists, while Morgan Trimper, Maddie Giordano, and Bailey Oakes each added goals. Trimper, Courtney Colarullo, and Ida Press each finished with two points in the win.

Loryn Porter turned away 31 shots to earn her eighth victory of the season as the Black Bears finished the day 1-for-4 power play while shutting the Crusaders down on five extra skater advantages.

Morgan Trimper started the scoring 13:49 into the first period. Kuoppala carried the puck behind the net before sliding it to the top of the dot to Press. Press fired a shot on net which was tipped past the Holy Cross goaltender by Trimper for the first tally of the afternoon.

Maine cashed in on the power play early in the second on Bailey Oakes second goal of the season. Kuoppala and Press again set the stage as they worked the puck around the zone before Oakes' one-timer lit the lamp for, what would become, the eventual game-winner.

Just over two minutes later, Maine extended its lead to 3-0 as Giordano found the net for the fifth time this season. Colarullo picked up her first of two assists on the day as she worked the puck over to the right face-off circle where Morgan Trimper sent a shot in on net. The shot was kicked aside but right to Giordano who buried it.

Holy Cross would cut the lead to 3-1 on Emma Lange's goal at 18:35 of the second period.

Kuoppala wasted no time getting Maine on the board in the third when her sixth goal came just 1:09 into the third. Ally Johnson started the play by digging the puck out of the boards and back to Colarullo. Colarullo sent it down to the dot, where Kuoppala gathered, skated into the slot, and cashed in for the fourth goal of the afternoon.

Maine returns to action on Friday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. when they host Merrimack at Alfond Arena.
