HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior forward Chase Stevenson (West Kelowna, British Columbia) scored two goals as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated UConn, 3-1, on Friday evening at the XL Center in Hockey East action.

The Wildcats have won five straight games and improve to 12-10-1 (6-7-1 Hockey East), while the Huskies fall to 9-10-0 (6-6-0 Hockey East).

UNH has outscored its opposition 23-7 over the last five contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- At 17:16 of the second period, the Huskies scored the first goal of the game when Jake Veilleux sent a back hander from behind the goal to Carter Turnbull who knocked it in glove side for the 1-0 lead.

- UNH tied the game at 1-1 at 19:19 of the second period while on the power play when freshman defenseman Colton Huard (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) blasted a shot from the left faceoff circle glove side for his fifth goal of the season, extending his point streak to five games. Freshman forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) and senior forward Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) each posted an assist on the goal.

- Stevenson gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead when he wristed a loose puck from the slot to the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Senior defenseman Ryan Verrier (Reading, Mass.) and senior forward Joseph Cipollone (Purchase, N.Y.) each tallied an assist on the score.

- With just over four minutes left to play in regulation, Roman Kinal fired a shot that hit the post keeping the score at 2-1.

- The Huskies then went on a power play and went with the empty net for the two-man advantage but the Wildcats kept UConn off the scoreboard.

- With just 10.5 seconds remaining Stevenson netted his second goal of the night when he scored an empty net goal for the 3-1 final score. Senior forward Eric MacAdams (Salem, Mass.) and Cipollone each recorded an assist on the goal.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Senior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) made 29 saves and improves to 10-6-0 this season, while Darion Hanson posted 32 saves for the Huskies.

- UNH outshot UConn by a 35-30 margin.
