PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No. 7 seeded Providence College women's hockey team defeated the No. 10 seeded Holy Cross Crusaders in the Opening Round of the 2022 Hockey East Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Schneider Arena.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

- Holy Cross got on the board first, 1-0, with a goal from Carlie Magier 9:31 into the first period. The Crusaders entered the first intermission with the lead after being outshot by the Friars, 5-22.

- Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) found the equalizer for the Friars 2:35 into the second period, 1-1, for her team-leading 11th goal of the season. She was assisted by Maddy Coene (Clayton, N.Y.) and Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario) on the rebound goal.

- Freshman Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal for the Friars just 3:31 into the third period, assisted by Barnett.

- The Crusaders pulled netminder Jada Brenon with just under two minutes remaining in regulation for the extra attacker. KC Brooks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) capitalized on the empty net with 1:33 remaining in regulation, 3-1.

- The Friars outshot the Crusaders, 45-23, through 60 minutes.

- Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) recorded 22 saves for a .957 save percentage on the night.

- Tonight served as the first-ever post season meeting between the Friars and the Crusaders. Providence has never lost to Holy Cross during the Crusaders' four-year tenure in the Hockey East, posting a perfect 13-0-0 mark.

- The Friars are 20-21 all-time in Hockey East Tournament play.
