CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Drew Helleson blasted a left wing one-timer from Marc McLaughlin with 5:20 left in regulation and Boston College edged No. 13 Boston University 3-1 in the 287th Battle of Comm Ave on Sunday at Kelley Rink.

Eric Dop posted a season-high 42 saves in the victory, while Marc McLaughlin and Brandon Kruse each collected a pair of assists.

BC extended its home unbeaten streak against the Terriers to four games (3-0-1).

Senior Jack McBain netted his third goal of the weekend to knot the score at 1-1 late in the second period, and classmate Patrick Giles sealed the points with an empty-netter in the closing seconds.

With the score tied late in the third period, Kruse took a hit along the right wing boards and McLaughlin collected the loose puck before finding Helleson on the weak side for a heavy blocker side one-timer.

The Eagles (12-17-5, 7-12-3 HEA) took a penalty with Drew Commesso pulled and 15 seconds left in regulation, but Giles buried a shot from a weak angle along the right wing boards for the 3-1 final.

BU (18-11-3, 12-7-3 HEA) opened the scoring on a 4-on-3 power play just six minutes into the first period when Wilmer Skoog fired a drop pass from Matt Brown high glove side from the slot.

The Eagles answered at 15:14 of the middle frame as McLaughlin set up McBain in the left wing circle and the senior snapped a shot off the right post to beat Commesso glove side.

BC is locked into a matchup with UNH in the Hockey East Opening Round on Wednesday, March 9 as either the No. 8 or No. 9 seed.

Boston College faces first-place UMass in a home-and-home series next weekend to close the regular season, beginning on Friday at 7 p.m. on Senior Night at Kelley Rink.
