Orono, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team earned the win in game one of the Border Battle against the University of New Hampshire 3-2.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): Maine would earn their first goal just one minute and four seconds into the first period as Grace Heiting would net one in from Luisa Welcke.

Second Goal (1-1 New Hampshire): The University of New Hampshire would answer with one of their own with a powerplay goal scored in the second period by Kyla Bent and assisted by Emily Pinto.

Third Goal (2-1 Maine): The Black Bears next goal would come in the third after Alyssa Wruble steals the puck for a breakaway down the ice resulting in the goal, her first of the season.

Fourth Goal (2-2 New Hampshire): The Wildcats next goal would be another power play goal, this time in the third period scored by Shea Verrier and assisted by Brianna Brooks.

Fifth Goal (3-2 Maine): The last goal to give Maine the lead would come in the third period during the powerplay. Ida Kuoppala would skate in front of the net to then flick the puck in to give Maine the lead. Rahel Enzler and Luisa Welcke would both pick up an assist on the goal.

Jorden Mattison would pick up 16 saves in the Maine victory.

The Black Bears return to the ice tomorrow afternoon at home for game two against the Wildcats at 2:00 P.M.
