Box Score - Highlights

DURHAM, N.H. - Thanks to graduate student Andrea Brändli's second consecutive shutout and goals from junior Tamara Giaquinto and sophomore Christina Vote, the Boston University women's ice hockey team posted a 2-0 victory over New Hampshire in its Hockey East opener on Friday evening at Whittemore Center.

Brändli became the first BU goaltender in 12 seasons to post back-to-back shutouts and Giaquinto's first collegiate goal proved to be the game-winner as the Terriers improved to 2-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in Hockey East play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- For the second time in as many Fridays, a BU upperclassman scored her first goal as a Terrier as junior Tamara Giaquinto gave the visitors a 1-0 lead midway through the first.

- Senior Jesse DeVito and sophomore Kylie Roberts won a puck battle along the right boards, allowing Giaquinto to move into an open slot and beat netminder Nicky Harnett with a shot that appeared to glaze off a defender at the 9:40 mark.

- While up 1-0, the Terriers earned the first three power-play chances of the game but were unable to use them to their advantage.

- BU got a huge insurance goal from Vote as she received a pass at the top of the slot from freshman Clara Yuhn and then skated through the left circle before waiting out a sliding defender and beating Harnett high at the near post with 9:30 to play.

- The Terriers stayed out of the box until the final minutes of the game but held off the ensuing 6-on-4 and Brändli finished off the shutout, making 10 of her 26 saves in the final period.

GAME NOTES

- DeVito assisted on both goals for the second two-point game of her career

- Brändli has stopped the first 45 shots she has faced as a Terrier following her 19-save shutout in her BU debut last Friday.

- Through three games, Yuhn (2g, 1a) and DeVito (3g) share the team lead in points.

- Giaquinto added a team-best three blocked shots.

- Kerrin Sperry was the last BU netminder to post back-to-back shutouts as she blanked UConn and Northeastern on Dec. 4 & 7, 2010.
