DURHAM, N.H. - Freshman forward Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.) found the back of the net twice for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated Army West Point, 3-1, on Friday evening in front 5,608 fans at the Whittemore Center in non-conference action. The Wildcats improve to 3-2-0, while the Black Knights fall to 0-4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- At 1:02 of the first period, senior captain Chase Stevenson (West Kelowna, British Columbia) sent the puck to senior forward Ryan Black (Pomfret, Conn.) who maneuvered around the Army defensemen to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

- Then at 9:54, UNH increased its lead to 2-0 when LeClerc rocketed the puck to the top left corner of the net. Junior defenseman Nikolai Jenson (Cold Spring, Minn.) and sophomore forward Will Margel (Potomac, Md.) each recorded an assist on the goal.

- Army responded with a 5-on-3 power play goal scored by Joey Baez to make the score 2-1 at 15:32 in the first period. Max Itagaki and Brett Abdelnour were credited with the assists.

- Senior goalie David Fessenden (Parker, Colo.) made an impressive pad save off of a powerful Hunter McCoy slap shot to maintain the Wildcats lead at 8:07 in the second period.

- LeClerc found the back of the net for the second time tonight extending the Wildcats lead to 3-1 at 1:27 in the third period. Sophomore forward Liam Devlin (Needham, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Colton Huard (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) were credited with assists on the goal.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Fessenden made 21 saves to improve to 2-1-0 this season, while Gavin Abric tallied 26 saves for the Black Knights.

- UNH outshot Army, 29-22.

- The Wildcats went 0-4 on the power play, while the Black Knights went 1-4.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

- Black, who played four seasons at Babson, recorded his first goal as a Wildcat.

- LeClerc recorded a multi-goal game for the first time in his career. He now sits at three goals and one assist for six points on the season.
