Freshman defenseman Lane Hutson scored in overtime for the Terriers

Box Score - Highlights

BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman Lane Hutson scored the final two goals of the game, including a spectacular unassisted goal in overtime, to lift the No. 9 Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over No. 18 UMass Lowell on Saturday night at Agganis Arena.

Hutson's first multi-goal game as a Terrier helped BU (4-3-0, 2-2-0 HE) erase a 1-0 deficit in another tight battle with UMass Lowell (5-3-0, 2-1-0 HE). He evened the score with 2:09 remaining in regulation and then notched the winner 2:29 into the extra session to secure an extra point in the Hockey East standings.

BU nearly won the game with 5.8 seconds remaining in regulation when senior Case McCarthy's blast from the top of the zone found the back of the net, but after a lengthy video review, the goal was overturned for goaltender interference.

Freshman Quinn Hutson had the primary helper on his brother's equalizer, with senior Matt Brown also assisting on the goal. Junior Drew Commesso returned to the lineup after missing the previous four games and was fantastic, making 29 saves, including a stupendous stop on an overtime breakaway bid.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Commesso stopped all 16 shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes to keep the game scoreless.

- Lowell struck first in the final minute of the second stanza when Matt Crasa knocked home a rebound after Commesso made a nice pad stop on the initial attempt.

- The all-freshman line of Jeremy Wilmer, Ryan Greene and Quinn Hutson gave BU a boost in the third period with several impressive shifts that nearly led to the tying goal.

- Senior Jay O'Brien was robbed by Gustavs Davis Grigals (30 saves) with 12 minutes to play, as the Lowell netminder made a fantastic glove save on a chance from between the circles.

- Greene had a point-blank chance during 4-on-4 play late in the third, but Grigals was in perfect position to make the save.

- Lane Hutson finally got BU on the board with 2:09 on the clock. With an extra attacker on the ice during a delayed penalty, Brown kept the play alive by sending the puck along the boards to Quinn, who then sent the puck to the left point for his brother. Lane dangled past one defender at the top of the zone, skated to the slot and uncorked a wrister that beat Grigals.

- After being denied a reguation win, BU regrouped for overtime and Commesso was sharp on Lowell's one attempt of the 3-on-3 session. Zach Kaiser skated in alone on the junior netminder, but Commesso stood tall and kept the puck out of the net.

- Lane's winner came when he made a great read to intercept the puck at his own blue line. He created a 2-on-1 with Greene, and when the defender played the pass, Hutson cut to the cage before going forehand to backhand and sliding the puck inside the right post.
