PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The UConn Huskies skate to a tie vs. No. 9 Providence Friday, November 11. Sophomore Logan Terness made 35 saves, while Justin Pearson scored the equalizing goal late in the third period.

Providence outshot UConn 13-3 in the first period however sophomore Logan Terness held the friars scoreless. The Huskies had a chance to break open the scoring on the power play however, freshman Matthew Wood's shot rang off the post. Both teams would head into the break scoreless.

Both teams would play an aggressive second period limiting scoring chances. Providence once again outshot the Huskies in the second period, but Logan Terness continued to blank the friars. UConn relied heavily on their defense as they wound up on the penalty kill three times in the period. Providence netminder Philip Svedback continued to hold the Huskies scoreless as he highlighted the second period by making two back to back saves on breakaway opportunities by Jake Percival and Ryan Tverberg.

Providence would get on the board first as Chase Yoder scored a shorthanded goal off a UConn turnover early in the third period. Philip Svedback and the Friars defense would continue to hold the Huskies scoreless late in the third period. UConn would find the equalizing goal late in the third period following a Providence penalty. While on the power play, Andrew Lucas fired a shot that was saved by Svedback, but the loose puck would find Justin Pearson who would net the rebound for the goal and force overtime.

In the overtime period, neither team was able to find the back so the teams would head to a best of three shootout. In the shootout, freshman Samu Salminen was the lone goal scorer giving UConn the 1-0 shootout victory.
