UConn Defeated by Quinnipiac, 1-0, at Nutmeg Classic

HAMDEN, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team fell to Quinnipiac University by a score of 1-0 in the Nutmeg Classic Championship Saturday night. 

Period 1: Both teams carried out a strategic gameplan, but neither team could break through to get a score up in the first period. UConn and Quinnipiac (QU) would look to take advantage of the power plays but both teams were held scoreless. The Huskies had three power plays and QU had one. Additionally, both teams would create chances offensively as the Bobcats managed to strike seven shots on goal whereas the Huskies had five. However, the score would stay scoreless at the end of the first period. 

Period 2: The Bobcats would find their breakthrough in the second period. Maya Labad would get the unassisted goal to put QU on the board first. By the end of the period, both teams would be dead even with shots on goal at 12 apiece. However, QU would go on to hold off UConn with a 1-0 score at the end of the second.  

Period 3: UConn would get a power play advantage that carried over from the second period, but QU was able to hold the Huskies from scoring. QU would follow that up with a power play of its own, but UConn would respond by killing the penalty. Both goaltenders would be major contributors throughout the game coming up with amazing saves. UConn's Tia Chan would finish with 20 saves and QU's Logan Angers would finish with 16. QU would keep the score at 1-0 and go on to take the Nutmeg Classic Championship.

The Huskies will look ahead to the two-game series against University of New Hampshire on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3 in Durham, NH. Puck drop for the first game is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and puck drop for the second game is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET. Both games can be streamed live on ESPN+.
