BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team defeated the University of Vermont Catamounts, 3-1, on Friday evening at the Gutterson Fieldhouse.  

First Goal (1-0 Vermont): With 00:08 remaining in the first period, the Catamounts scored the first goal of the evening. Eric Gotz found the back of the while on the power play. Maine trailed by a goal after the first 20:00.  

Second Goal (1-1): Reid Pabich scored the first goal of his career 1:41 into the second period. Grayson Arnott and Pabich connected on a pass that went through the neutral zone. The freshman forward found himself behind the Vermont defenseman and with a clear path to the net. Looking as though he had been there before, Pabich tied the conference match-up with ease.  

Third Goal (2-1 Maine): Donavan Villeneuve-Houle gave the Black Bears a one goal lead with his goal halfway through the second period. Brandon Holt kept the puck in the zone and left it for Houle. The junior forward ripped a shot that exploded past the Vermont netminder. At the end of two periods and in front of Houle's family, Maine held a 2-1 lead.  

Fourth Goal (3-1 Maine): With two seconds remaining in the Hockey East contest, Cole Hanson scored a goal from his own end. It was the final goal of the night as the Black Bears won their first Hockey East game of the season, 3-1.  

Notes: Victor Ostman saved 16 shots in net for the Black Bears, while Gabe Carriere stopped 38 shots between the pipes for Vermont.  

Maine went 0 for 2 on the power play, as the Catamounts were 1-3 on its player advantages.
