PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Matt Argentina scored a goal in the third period and secured an extra point for Boston College over No. 10 Providence with a shootout winner in the fourth round on Saturday night at Schneider Arena.

The game officially finished as a 2-2 tie, the second straight tie between the schools who split their regular season series. The Eagles moved to 5-5-4 overall and 4-3-3 in Hockey East.

Sophomore Connor Joyce scored the other goal for BC, his second of the season. Graduate student Mitch Benson finished the night with 33 saves, more than half of which came in the second period.

Providence (9-3-5, 6-0-5 HEA) broke a scoreless tie just past the midway point of the contest at 10:37 of the second period. Nick Poisson tipped Max Crozier's right point shot at the near post and followed his own rebound from the edge of the crease.

BC tied the game with four minutes left in the middle frame when Eamon Powell threw a shot on net from the high slot. Mike Posma got a piece of the rebound before Joyce spun around in the low right circle and whipped a forehand shot into the roof of the net.

Argentina handed the Eagles their first lead on a 3-on-2 at 7:11 of the final frame. Nikita Nesterenko gained the PC line along the left wing and slipped a pass across the zone for Argentina, who snapped a shot high short side to beat Philip Svedeback.

The Friars answered exactly four minutes later when Riley Duran centered a backhand pass to the edge of the crease for Poisson to finish first time for his second of the night.

Boston College out-shot PC 5-1 in overtime, but needed a fourth round winner from Argentina to secure an extra league point. Argentina threw a shoulder fake and deked backhand before lifting a shot over the right pad of Svedeback.

The Eagles killed off Providence's lone power play and have now killed off 22 of the last 23 power plays faced.

BC hosts rival Boston University in the Battle of Comm Ave next Friday at Kelley Rink on Jerry York Night to close the first semester at 7 p.m. on ESPNEWS.
