Box Score

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the Colgate University Raiders, 5-2, on Friday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): While on a five minute power play, Nolan Renwick scored the first goal of the non-conference contest. Lynden Breen ripped the puck over to his linemate, Ben Poisson. The senior 'A' played the puck to Renwick. Sending a bounding puck on net, the sophomore forward scored his squad's first goal of the night. Maine held a very early 1-0 lead.

Second Goal (1-1): Alex Young scored the game tying goal just over five minutes of game time later. The forward led a two-on-one rush into the Maine zone. Jacob Mucitelli was unable to neutralize the attack as the game was tied 1-1 at the 10:06 mark of the first period.

Third Goal (2-1 Colgate): Alex Young, scoring his second goal of the first period, gave the Raiders a one goal lead in the first period. Three seconds after being sent to the box, the Black Bears gave up the go ahead goal. With just over five minutes remaining in the first, Maine trailed 2-1.

Fourth Goal (2-2): Using a slap shot from the nearside face-off dot, Brandon Holt tied the Friday night game at two goals apiece. Brandon Chabrier kept the puck in the zone. Didrik Henbrant carried the puck around the glass and behind the net before finding Holt. The freshman's rocket lit the lamp and tied the game early in the second period.

Fifth Goal (3-2 Colgate): Less than four minutes of gameplay later, the Raiders regained a one goal lead. Mucitelli made a stick save but left a rebound for Sebastian Tamburro. The first goal of Tamburro's career gave his squad the lead.

Sixth Goal (4-2 Colgate): Once again on an odd man rush, the Raiders padded their lead. Ross Mitton was the benefactor of the 2-on-1 sprint. At the 14:54 mark of the second period, the Black Bears faced a two goal deficit.

Seventh Goal (5-2 Colgate): Arnaud Vachon scored the Raiders' second power play goal of the night and third goal of the second period. At the end of 40:00, Maine trailed 5-2.

The third period was played to a scoreless tie, as the 5-2 score stood. Maine dropped the first game of the non-conference series to the Colgate Raiders.

Notes: Jacob Mucitelli saved 12 shots in net for the Black Bears before being relieved by Connor Androlewicz who recorded three saves between the pipes. Carter Gylander stopped 23 shots between the pipes for Colgate.

Maine went 1 for 3 on the power play, as the Raiders were 2-6 on its player advantages.

Next: The two squads return to the ice tomorrow, Saturday, December 31 to complete the two game series. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:02 pm.
